About Us

Susan Hordych, Suzi’s Sweet Shoppe

Our story begins when owner, Susan Hordych worked in a candy store as a teenager and fell in love with making chocolate.  Her passion for candy chocolate only grew and in 1998, Susan opened Suzi’s Sweet Shoppe, where she make homemade, hand-dipped chocolate and fudge, right in the store. She has celebrated over two decades in business and a journey full of family, friends, and sweets.

As a Certified Gift Designer, Susan continually attends gift basket and candy conventions around the country for inspiration, new ideas, and continuing education. Though she specializes in corporate gift giving including all occasion gifts and baskets, corporate branded designs, and chocolate party favors for events , Susan has a special flair for providing family and community events with decadent chocolates, confectionery platters, and favors. Susan is a member of the Gift Basket Association, actively pursuing new technologies and innovations in her industry to continue expanding her products and creativity.

At its heart, Suzi’s Sweet Shoppe is a family business that believes in giving back to the community through Susan's continued support of several organizations including Michaels Feat, March of Dimes, Autism Speaks, Ronald McDonald House, Red Bank Rotary, Breast Intentions, and schools within their local area.

In addition to winning numerous local awards for her chocolate and candy, including the Best of Monmouth ten years in a row, Suzi’s Sweet Shoppe was also named as an honoree for 2018 in the New Jersey Family Business of the Year Awards. The shoppe was also nationally featured on ABC News 7 for National Peanut Butter Fudge Day.

Susan also co-authored the book Journey to Joy, in which she and several other women share an array of intimate and heartfelt stories detailing how they found true joy and freedom through everyday life. Journey to Joy is aimed at inspiring other women to find joy through following their dreams.

During peak season Susan employs up to eight women, two of whom are her daughters, two are her sisters, and one is her niece, so it really is like family! Susan celebrated the birth of her 15th grandchild and firmly believe that Suzi’s Sweet Shoppe is where the love of family meets the love of chocolate!
